Tommie Black-Roff is an accordionist, pianist, singer and composer. Originally from the very tip of Cornwall in the south-west of the UK, he grew up amongst the local folk musicians while also studying classical piano with the Fitkin family.
Studying at SOAS, University of London, he read ethnomusicology with a particular interest in contemporary fusion music practice. Subsequently he has performed extensively across the UK in folk music and a wide range of other genres.
Other projects he has been involved in include Tatcho Drom, Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra, Balagan Café Band, Peter Wiegold’s Inegales, Secret Cinema and Sam Lee’s Singing With Nightingales.
Currently studying at the Sibelius Academy as part of the Nordic Master in Folk Music program, he is living across the nordic countries including Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway. There he is exploring accordion techniques and local traditions of music making.
